Thomas Cochrane – A Fighting Captain

This blog is named for Thomas, Lord Cochrane, the late 10th. Earl of Dundonald, and one of the great fighting captains of the Royal Navy in the Napoleonic Wars.

Latterly he was a radical politician, founder of the Chilean Navy and victim of a classic establishment stitch-up for which he went to prison but in respect of which he was later wholly exonerated, later serving as an Admiral and holding the office of Rear Admiral of the United Kingdom. All his honours were restored to him and after his death his family was awarded a huge sum in compensation.
